Opening an Oven Door on Shabbat

Question

Shalom, Rabbi,
Is it indeed permitted to open the oven door on Shabbat (if I placed food and the like there in order to keep it there), or is it considered muktzeh? And is it advisable at all to put things there so that one will not need to open it?

Answer

Shalom and blessings.

In modern ovens, there are lights that turn on when the door is opened and turn off when it is closed, and this is certainly forbidden.

In older ovens, the oven is muktzeh; however, for the purpose of using the item itself or its place, it is permitted to move it.

Ideally, if there is another place to put the items, they should be placed somewhere where it will not be necessary to move muktzeh.
